The District of Columbia will vote on Initiative 77 on June 19, which will determine whether servers at restaurants are entitled to earn the minimum wage raise of $12.50. The organization Restaurant Opportunities Center United is spearheading the campaign to help employed servers and bartenders earn a standard wage. Many restaurant owners oppose the measure, saying it would be detrimental to the growth of the industry. Read more at Washington City Paper.

 

REGULATIONS

The Supreme Court’s recent repeal on Sports Betting has local investors and businesses looking to capitalize on the ruling. DraftKings, an online fantasy sports business with financial ties to D.C.-based Revolution Growth, is making plans to expand their venture into areas such as Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
