Cradles to Crayons provides everyday essentials to children living in low-income or homeless situations. The nonprofit supplies shoes, clothing, coats, school supplies and much more. Staying true to the mission that kids come first is essential to the culture of the organization, and this has helped Cradles to Crayons serve more than 500,000 children since its inception. Executive director Michal Smith says the culture at Cradles to Crayons is all about using collective genius, a diverse team and a cohesive bond to make a difference and further the organization’s legacy of service. To build that bond even stronger, Cradles to Crayons offers its employees the benefit of flexible schedules, but also makes a commitment to wellness and sustainability, holding short walks every day, organizing FitBit competitions and requiring environmental awareness training for all employees, among other initiatives.
