Cynthia Scott took her first job with the federal government at age 17. She worked as an administrative assistant with a group of engineers. As Scott began learning about the engineers and listening to their discussions, she decided to pursue a similar career. Today, she is senior director of contracts and business strategy for Data Systems Analysts, Inc. (DSA) and is the first person in her family to receive an advanced degree, despite her family’s worry at her decision to enter a “man’s world.” In her role at DSA, Scott is a key part of the leadership team, and offers guidance on future growth areas, champions risk mitigation and actively mentors the company’s contracts team. Outside of the office, mentorship is equally as important to Scott. As a “cancer warrior” herself, she mentors patients who have recently joined the Alliance Cancer Specialists and the Choose Hope charity to help them through their journey. Fran Pierce accepted the award on behalf of Cynthia Scott.
