Richmond-based Union Bankshares Corp. will acquire Access National Bank for $610 million in an all stock deal expected to close next year, creating a bank with $16 billion in assets, $11.9 billion in deposits and $11.4 billion in loans. Morgan State Sees Over $250 Million in Donations
Morgan State University’s Anniversary Campaign brought in $254,307,730 in donations, surpassing it’s goal by around $4.3 million. The funds from this second-largest ever campaign for the school will go towards advancing teaching and academic programs and increasing financial aid packages. New York Investor Joins Support for Canton Cancer Startup
New York-based Innovatus Capital Partners announced it will invest “up to $42 million” in Personal Genome Diagnostics (PGDx). The Canton-based startup develops genomic cancer tests that use algorthims to find alterations in genomes associated with cancer. Read more at Technical.ly Baltimore.
GM Number One in The Word for Workplace Equality
Gender equity data and insight group Equileap released its second annual Global Report on Gender Equality last week and ranks General Motors No. 1 for workplace gender equality worldwide. The study looked at over 3,000 companies in 23 countries. GM scored high on the list due in part to having a female CEO and an equal number of women and men on its board of directors.
