The new $200-million Live Casino Hotel in Hanover is officially open, marking the completion of the six-year project, which includes 310 hotel rooms, a spa, gym and 1,400-seat event venue, which will ultimately extend to 4,000 seats. Read more at The Baltimore Sun.

 

TRAVEL

BWI Marshall Airport is seeking an expedited procurement from the Maryland Board of Public Works for a $60-million, 55,000-square-foot expansion of its Concourse A that would ultimately give five additional gates to Southwest including new passenger waiting areas and concessions. If approved, work would begin in January and wrap up in 2020 when five existing gates will close to accommodate construction of a new baggage handling system. Read more at Washington’s Top News.

 

STARTUPS

The second quarter of 2018 saw 23 Maryland companies receive $247 million in venture capital investments, up from $102 million during the same time last year, but down from the first quarter total of $408 million. Read more at Technical.ly Baltimore.

 

EDUCATION

The Goddard School will open a franchise in Towson at 807 Gleneagles Ct. this summer set to include 18 classrooms and two gyms. The upscale early childhood learning group is based in King of Prussia, Pa. This will be its 17th Maryland location. Read more at the Baltimore Business Journal.

 

INFLATION

The Labor Department announced that the consumer price index was up 0.1 percent in June versus the year prior, but inflation increased 2.9 percent from the same time last year, the largest annual gain since February 2012. Read more at Long Island Business News.

 

RETIREMENT

Gallup’s State of American Well-Being ranks South Dakota as the best state in which to retire. The findings are based on the results of over 2.5 million surveys to judge how people feel about five aspects of their lives: purpose, social, financial, community and physical. Maryland ranked 48th.
